Have you ever woken from a pleasant dream and wished so badly that the you could return to the dream world to continue the adventure? The DEILD technique allows you to do this with the added bonus of returning to the dream lucidly. Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dreams (DEILD), also known as Dream Chaining, is a shortened version of a WILD that is performed directly after waking from a dream. This technique allows the user to chain multiple lucid dreams in a row.
During the night, we experience many mini-awakenings, mostly after REM periods. These awakenings are so brief, we often don’t remember them at all. The goal of the DEILD technique is to recognize when we are waking from a dream and consciously re-enter the dream. Let’s break down this technique:
Step One: Wake from a dream
Before going to sleep, set the intention to wake up after your dreams. Mentally tell yourself that you will recognize when you are waking up from a dream. This sounds easier than it actually is. But with time and practice, it will become a habit.
Step Two: Do not move
As your dream fades, keep your eyes closed and do not move your body. Your instinct may be to roll over and return to sleep, or wake up and record the dream but you must resist. Your brain will still be in ‘REM Mode’ as you awaken and you want to take advantage of this.
Step Three: Re-enter the dream
Treat this like a normal WILD attempt. Learn more about how to perform a WILD here. Stay present and wait for the dream to reform. You can even visualize a new dream scene here. Do this until a new dream forms.
Step Four: Ground yourself
Your new dream may be unstable at first. Try to engage your senses as much as possible in order to stabilize the dream. Rub your hands together, reach out and touch something, observe the visual details around you.
Wrapping Up
The DEILD technique allows you to re-enter a dream lucidly. If performed back-to-back, you can even chain multiple lucid dreams together for extended lucid adventures. It takes practice to from the habit of recognizing when you are waking up from a dream and remaining still. But once the habit is formed, you have the potential for easy lucid dreaming.
