Dream Goals: My goal is to implement a SOP(standard operating procedure) of sorts for whenever I become lucid. I want to work on stabilizing and prolonging the dream as the very first thing I do when becoming lucid. This is called grounding. This should be a SOP for every lucid dream but sometimes I get complacent and rush into my lucid adventure.
Techniques Used: Whenever I woke to record a dream, I would perform a short VILD or MILD before returning to sleep. My main attempt will occur after 4.5 hours of sleep. I usually wake up after 5 hours of sleep from a dream, so 4.5 hours should put me right in the REM period.
Time: 6:15
“My dream felt like it was ending when I felt myself ‘roll out of my body’. I knew instantly that I was in the dream world. I performed a nose-pinch reality check (RC) and I could easily breathe through my fingers. I remembered my dream goal and began to stabilize the dream by rubbing my hands together, reaching out and grabbing things, and saying out loud ‘I am dreaming’. I was in my parent’s house. I floated through the patio door and was outside. It was nighttime. The stars and moon were very vivid. I floated around the back yard for a moment, focusing on keeping the dream stable. The dream began to fade but I stopped and grounded myself once more. The dream came back to full vividness. I saw the neighbor’s house and had the urge to explore. It looked abandoned but as I approached I heard the rumble of loud party music coming from inside. I go inside and there is a very vibrant party going on! The dream began to fade again but I was able to bring it back by grounding myself. The host of the party, an asian female, informed me there was more partying happening downstairs. I went downstairs and found a small stage with a band playing rock music to the party-goers. After watching for a moment, I went back upstairs. The host was surprised that I didn’t stay and watch the band longer, seeing as I am a musician (how did she know?). I felt the dream begin to fade once more and had a feeling that I should allow it to fade and wake up.”
Notes: I must have underestimated how quickly I would fall asleep, because I woke from a dream about 30 minutes prior to when my alarm was set to wake me. I reset my alarm to wake me after another hour, hoping to be in the vicinity of REM. I woke and performed a MILD. My timing was still off, but it still seemed to induce a lucid dream in my next REM period.
